For our group research project, we are going to find out which species are more related to each other by looking at their muscle protein sequence. We are planning to extract and denature protein from the heart and breast muscle tissues of beef, duck, chicken and turkey. Beef is the only mammal species, so we predict that beef will be the out group in our project . And then with using the polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis technology, we can see the differences and similarities in protein band from different species to determine the relationships between them.
The one resource that I find really helpful is one website which gives us a general evolution history of chicken and some other birds.
